The current spring/summer 2012 campaign

NAVYBOOT was also able to secure the services of international photographer Peter Lindbergh for the second campaign. Swiss model Patricia Schmid and Johnny Harrington were filmed against the backdrop of an inverted picture of a Mexican cemetery in a scene inspired by the "Dia de los Muertos" theme of the collection.

Viva Zapatos! Navyboot went to Mexico for spring/summer 2012, drawing inspiration from the exuberant colors, symbols, patterns, materials and festive spirit of Dias de los Muertos or The Day of the Dead. For this annual ritual is a joyous one, which happily remembers departed loved ones in a vibrant celebration of life itself.

For Navyboot, this translates into a luminous palette shot with vibrant bursts of green, yellow, pink, turquoise, orange, lilac and red. The festival’s dominant symbol – the skull – appears as tiny charms or little rivets, or as full-blown motifs on leather bags appliquéd in the traditional Mexican style. The spots of the cunning and powerful jaguar, a wild cat who prowled both the habitat and mythical imagination of the Mayans, are featured on shoes and bags in lasered leather, jacquard wovens and floral embroidered jacquard versions.

Stylistically, Navyboot has evolved traditional Mexican models like the bast soled espadrille in fresh new directions, and borrowed other local favorites such as raw vachetta leather for a clean, handcrafted touch. Traditional ikat weaves create further surprises, while ring-tailed lizard, stingray and eel, and feathers provide a luxurious edge.

The graphic women’s collection steps out on sculptural wooden or chunky crepe wedges, with platforms adding wearable ease to spring’s high heels. There’s also a new generation of interesting mid-to-low heels, plus a full corps of ballerinas, ultra-flat sandals, boyfriend brogues and sleek, urban high tops.

Bags tell a primarily soft story, the signature coucous bag sporting jaguar spots in embroidered taffeta or worked in a mixed material patchwork skull pattern for next season. Also of special note: the new star tote, softly constructed of nappa panels that have been linked – rather than stitched – into each other.

The men’s Navyboot collection is boldly neo-classic, combining a historical feel with freewheeling contemporary flair. Goodyear welting has been taken to another plane for dapper loafers and oxfords, while bast soles transform boat shoes, flat oxfords, and urban espadrilles. Next season is all about stylish fun in ikat printed suede, Mexican printed fabric, or on sunshine yellow soles, while unusual details like colored zig zag insets, accent seaming, patterned linings, authentic leather threading or the pink edges of next season’s red suede loafers may require a second glance.

 To the gallery

exclusive dinner hosted by the SBNB collection

	Zurich, 18 November 2011

Yesterday, the Swiss National Museum in Zurich turned into a hot spot. NAVYBOOT and Andres Andrekson aka Stress hosted a dinner party. A small gathering of 60 guests, including Baschi, Bligg, Mousse T. and Jubaira Bachmann, celebrated the launch of the first SBNB – STRESS by NAVYBOOT collection.

SBNB is a collaboration between NAVYBOOT and STRESS, initially producing footwear only for men. The sneakers are inspired by the historic battle at Sempach in 1386 – a theme that has been reinterpreted for modern times and has been recreated as a picture on some of the models’ soles. The advertising campaign has been staged as a modern version of the battle with Stress in the role of Arnold von Winkelried.

The evening began with a champagne reception. The museum’s premises were covered in long velvet curtains and decorated with lances, stuffed pheasants and other medieval details. The guests received a guided tour giving them an insight into the history of Switzerland.

After NAVYBOOT’s Creative Director Adrian J. Margelist had welcomed the guests, dinner was served on a rustic wooden table with a view of the museum’s courtyard. Cote de Boeuf, grilled artichoke, tarte tartin and other delicacies were accompanied by selected wines served in crystal glasses.

Following a warm welcome extended by Stress, who also thanked NAVYBOOT for their excellent collaboration, an exclusive insight was given into the SBNB campaign shoot. The making-of video shows how much fun was had by everyone involved in enacting the battle, especially the crew around Stress. The campaign was realised by the hip photographer Stefan Heinrichs in Berlin.

After A delicious dinner, DJ Vincz Lee (Best Black Music DJ 2010) took to the turntables. With spirits running high, the company celebrated on until the early hours. Some of the guests even got to test the SBNB Sneakers. A limited version of the SBNB High Top model made from black nappa leather was given to every male guest – each pair in the right size.

Reopening of the flagship store in Zurich

NAVYBOOT celebrates their 20th anniversary and reopening of their flagship store in Zurich by presenting the results of their new brand strategy

Zurich, August 26th 2011

As part of their 20th anniversary celebrations, NAVYBOOT will present the results of their new brand strategy. The complete NAVYBOOT collection has been designed in-house for the very first time. Together with his team, Adrian J. Margelist (Creative Director since July 2010) has created and designed every model in the new Fall/ Winter collection right up to the finest detail. The designs were then put into production by first-class European manufacturing companies. The stringent quality and design demands from the Swiss premium brand can thus be realised and maintained.

On the evening of September 2nd, NAVYBOOT will celebrate their 20th anniversary and the reopening of their Zurich flagship store in Bahnhofstrasse 69. The prominent position in the city centre and the unique interior design are significant aspects of the NAVYBOOT store concept. The focal point of the interior design is the solid wood heritage wall, which is finished in dark aubergine and has been kept as an original element from the very first NAVYBOOT stores. Classic design with a modern interpretation, concrete walls with neon lights and classic herringbone parquet flooring define the design of the 120 m² store. A Swarovski chandelier produced exclusively for NAVYBOOT is a central design element. Classic Le Corbusier furniture is given a modern twist with details in the NAVYBOOT corporate colour scheme.

“The store reopening on the prestigious Bahnhofstrasse offers an ideal opportunity to celebrate our 20th anniversary and present the new brand strategy of our company,” comments Faris Momani, the CEO of NAVYBOOT. “The new modern look and high quality standards of the collection, the development of the existing store design and a focus on first-class city centre locations are important steps in the new premium brand strategy from NAVYBOOT.”

The current advertising campaign is also part of the new brand image. Here, the Swiss model Julia Saner was put in the limelight by renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh in front of an upside-down (!) Alpine backdrop.

“The Alps are a source of Swiss pride, one of the essential values of the NAVYBOOT brand. Despite our intention to operate on the global market, we will always remain true to our roots in Switzerland,” comments Creative Director Adrian J. Margelist.

NAVYBOOT will not only celebrate their anniversary with a party, but also with a special shoe model. When the company was founded in 1991, the “Original” was one of the absolute bestsellers in the men’s range. This model will now receive a special update. The "Original" is designed without a welt, and is produced in modern materials such as deerskin and embossed calfskin.

Company history:
NAVYBOOT was founded in Zurich by Bruno Bencivenga in 1991, with the idea of offering top-class footwear in fashionable designs. Their first self-owned store opened in Zurich in 2001, thus starting the verticalisation of the brand. NAVYBOOT currently operates stores in Switzerland and Germany, with expansion into other international locations continuing apace. The Fall/ Winter 2011 collection from NAVYBOOT will be the first to have been developed and realised completely in-house. NAVYBOOT is a premium brand on the global footwear and accessories market. The company has been a part of the Gaydoul Group since 2008, whose brand portfolio includes Fogal, JetSet and Hanhart.
